Product Care instructions for APRIL STORY's furniture are provided to you as a complimentary service. No warranty is implied since results may vary.
General Care
Best practice for any piece of furniture takes a general precaution towards unusual environment. Therefore, we highly recommend avoiding exposure to direct sunlight, heat or humidity to prevent fading and cracking. Surfaces should be covered when possible to prevent physical damage. Use coasters and mats under glasses and hot dishes. Please be aware that heavily dyed fabric, like dark wash denim, can transfer colour to your furniture and cause discolouration.
Leather
Body oil, dust and temperature can affect the PH balance in leather, accelerating surface wear. This causes a slow loss of colour in the leather, giving that a faded look especially on the headrest area. This is completely normal as leather is a natural material. Dust with a dry cloth and vacuum for regular maintenance. If stains become apparent, blot stains immediately and wipe surface with a lightly dampened cloth and mild detergent. Do not spot clean; wipe the entire surface area and then dry with a clean cloth. Do not use saddle soap, abrasive cleaners or detergents or ammonia. If necessary, use non-abrasive leather cleaner but spot test to ensure there will be no discolouration. If the stain or blemish is still present, please consult a furniture repair specialist.
Leather Claim
APRIL STORY warrants that the upholstery leather on each piece of furniture will be repaired or replaced as best determined by APRIL STORY if the leather fails to give at least one year of normal wear. This does not apply to close outs, seconds, or end of line leathers.
Note:
- Claims due to cuts, burns, stains, soiling, pet damage, and after market fabric protectant and improper cleaning are excluded. Do not remove covers for cleaning;
- WE STORY cannot warrant any problems which may result from exposure to excessive heat or sunlight.
Leather-Look Microfibre
Dust with a dry cloth for regular care. Avoid over sun exposure and isopropyl alcohol. If stains become apparent, use a non-abrasive leather cleaner with a soft cotton cloth to gently wipe in a circular motion. Do not spot clean; wipe the entire surface area and then dry with a soft clean cloth. Do not use saddle soap, abrasive cleaners or detergents or ammonia.
If necessary, use non-abrasive leather cleaner but spot test to ensure there will be no discolouration. If the stain or blemish is still present, please consult a furniture repair specialist.
Fabric
Vacuum regularly with an upholstery attachment. Flip, rotate and fluff removable cushions regularly to ensure even wear and increase longevity. Feather and down cushions have excellent recovery, but much like down comforters, pillows need to be fluffed frequently to restore their loft. Some feather loss is normal. Vacuuming with an upholstery attachment between the fabric casings and cushions will help prevent feathers from poking through the fabric. In order to minimize fading, ensure avoid placing your upholstered furniture under direct sunlight. Dark fabrics and natural fibres like cotton are most susceptible to fading. An annual professional cleaning is highly recommended.
Fabric Claims
APRIL STORY warrants that the upholstery fabric on each piece of furniture will be repaired or replaced as best determined by APRIL STORY if the fabric fails to give at least one year of normal wear. This does not apply to close outs, seconds, or end of line fabrics.
Note:
- Claims due to cuts, burns, stains, soiling, pet damage, and after market fabric protectant and improper cleaning are excluded. Do not remove covers for cleaning;
- Due to chemical make-up of certain fabric fibres, APRIL STORY cannot warrant any problems which may result from exposure to excessive heat or sunlight;
- Pilling - Pilling is a characteristic of many upholstered fabrics that results in excess fibre coming off of the surface of the material. This release of excess fibre results in small balls or pills of fibre forming on the surface of the cover. This condition is not warranted by the fabric mills because it is not seen to be a defect, it is simply excess material being released. This is similar to the fuzzing experienced with new carpet or the pilling of a new sweater. The concern on the part of most consumers is that the fabric is disintegrating and will ultimately leave a bald area on the cover. That is not the case; as with carpets and sweaters, the pilling will persist until the excess fibre is gone and then it will cease. The best treatment while this is happening is simply to shave the cover with a battery-operated furniture or sweater shaver to remove the pills and restore the look of the cover surface. This may need to be done three or four times, but the pilling on the surface will begin to diminish and ultimately stop.
Stains
Treat stains immediately for the best results. Blot up as much of the spill as possible with a clean, dry and soft white cloth. Do not rub. If a cleaner is needed, we recommend using an all natural mild upholstery cleaner and spot testing in a discrete area. For large or stubborn stains, we recommend dry cleaning or consulting a local furniture repair specialist for professional maintenance and care.
